our story
Strewn is the coming together of Laurie Dunphy and Michelle Vazquez—two Chicago florista icons. Laurie and Michelle first met at A New Leaf in Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood, where Laurie led the team for over two decades. Michelle started at a New Leaf before branching out as a co-owner of Blumgarten until the end of 2019.
Their love of flowers+plants and art+design is being beautifully explored in this new botanical dream shop and studio in Pilsen, a vibrant Chicago neighborhood known for its Mexican, Bohemian, and rich artistic culture.
Why Strewn? — Beauty can be found in unexpected places. There is beauty in chaos. The award winning work we do to create beauty comes from a process. The studio is strewn with materials, coming together in a vase, bouquet or installation.
It also encompasses our vision of coming together to offer a beautiful and rare scattering of options from our unique shop and studio, to an intimate gathering space that connects community and family.
